Programmes (Continued)
1. Action Research
WLSA carries out socio-legal research into the situation of women.
The research is action oriented because it seeks to change for
the better the lives of women and children through the law.
In the period 2003 – 2005 WLSA will conduct and document
eight action research projects dealing with laws, policies and practices
that promote or curb the spread of HIV/AIDS in the seven WLSA countries.
This will result in the publications of seven country reports and
one regional comparative report. For specific country topics click
the link to the particular country.
2. Information Generation
WLSA produces research reports as well as a variety of pamphlets
that address specific issues. You can find some of these under publications
and articles.
3. Legal Services
The programmes is applied partly as a research method to collect
data and as on the spot advice to respondents as part of action
research and also to women who are usually poor and cannot afford
lawyers.
4. Lobbying and Advocacy
WLSA action research and expertise is made available to law and
policy makers formulating reviewing and implementing key national
and regional policies. The lobbying and advocacy campaigns identify
gaps and limitations within law and policies and target policy and
law makers and community and traditional leaders. At regional level
the targets include regional organizations such as SADC, COMESA
and the African Union. In this way WLSA makes input into national
and regional policy and legal instruments.
5. Training and Education
WLSA Trains NGOs and Human Rights groups on WLSA research results.
Stakeholders are also trained. Contact national
offices for details.
